Spring’s Sprung In Cape May!

Little bit by little bit, Cape May is coming out of a long winter’s nap.  Retail stores and restaurants once quiet for the winter, open their doors and the town starts humming with activity. Then the crocuses and daffodils pop up, followed by tulips and hyacinths.

The birds make their presence known too with flocks of robins, juncos, Carolina wrens, sparrows and swallows. But the most prevalent species indigenous to Cape May — the contractor vans — flock to our fair city, signaling the preparations for the upcoming season.

It’s a busy time, and events start to populate the calendar, drawing visitors to our hamlet.  For the young and agile, the Cape May Convention Center offers roller skating in a number of sessions.  Click here for specific times and pricing!

Tamburitzans

Also at Convention Hall on Beach Avenue are two concerts: The Duquesne University Tamburitzans on Sunday, March 22nd and then on Saturday, April 4th, Cape May welcomes Deana Martin performing a tribute in song to her father, Dean Martin, and also to her “uncles,” Sammy Davis Jr., and Frank Sinatra. It is sure to be a celebration of these great singers and The Great American Songbook.

Cape May’s music scene is vast and you’ll find live music in venues throughout the area. A very popular venue is the Willow Creek Winery, which has its weekly “Firepit Fridays” featuring a crackling fire outside, and inside local musicians entertain while you enjoy the comfy couches, fireplace, delicious tapas and signature wines.

If it’s theater you like, our local Equity theater troupe, East Lynne Theater Company offers its popular vintage-radio style productions of Nick Carter and Sherlock Holmes mysteries on Friday and Saturday, March 20th and 21st.  Advance ticket purchases are encouraged, as this very often sells out.

HOLMES

And there’s more!  On March 27-28th, wepatty-larkin welcome the 8th annual Singer Songwriter Weekend, with over 150 independent singer-songwriters performing in 15 venues throughout Cape May.  There will be more music to hear than you can imagine, so to help you plan your weekend, visit the event website and take a listen to these troubadours. One of the headliners of the event is Patty Larkin, a guitar wizard and accomplished songwriter.

So you see, in additional to the tours, shopping, dining, beach-walking and just enjoying the environs of Cape May, there are ever more reasons to visit us in the off-season.  If you do, make us your first call to secure one of our excellent rental properties, many available for the weekend!

We still have great properties available in prime season, and now is a good time to reserve yours! You can even pay by credit card…only at Homestead. You can browse all of our properties on-line at: www.homesteadcapemayrentals.com If a weekly rental, you can book online, or book your weekend and summer vacation rental, by calling us at 1-888-309-7454 or contacting us via: reservations@homesteadrealestate.net.

Spring Forward!

IMG_1961Well, it may not feel quite like spring, but we’re excited that it will officially be upon us in only 2 weeks! Cape May has just experienced our coldest February in 36 years. Ice protrudes straight out to the concrete ship at sunset beach and snow adorns the dunes along the promenade. Despite the extreme cold, the winter landscape does offer a sense of tranquility that is a stark contrast to the golden sun of summer. If you’ve never experienced Cape May in the winter, give us a visit and see what you’ve been missing!

IMG_1974You may be one of those who prefer to just admire winter in pictures. If so, we hear you! That’s why we’re excited that it’s time to “spring forward” on March 8th. An extra hour of daylight will be gained in the evenings, providing more opportunities for brisk evening walks, views of sunsets at the cove, and strolls along the Washington Street mall.

While Cape May never goes to sleep entirely, the spring does usher in an uptick in activity and events, especially on the weekends. Be sure and check out the St. Patrick’s Day celebration at beautiful conventiimg261244d4daf4883246on hall. This event will take place on Saturday March 7th and will feature “The Quietmen”-a regional based band featuring Celtic rock/folk music.

If you’d really like to capture the spirit of the Victorian Era, come to town for Sherlock Holmes Weekend, March 20-22. Participants often deck themselves out in traditional Victorian attire in search of clues leading to a $250 grand prize!

As always, don’t forget about tried and true weekend favorites. Want to unwind after a long week? Check out Fire Pit Friday at Willow Creek Winery. A favorite amongst locals and visitors alike, Fire Pit Friday features outstanding performances of local musicians, fantastic wines, and savory foods prepared by chefs from around the Cape.

If you’re coming to the area with little ones, delight them with a roller skating outing at Convention Hall! Skate rental is available as well as private parties.

Finding Pet Friendly Vacation Homes in Cape May

We understand that many pet owners don’t want to leave their pets behind when they go on vacation. A large number of pets are used to going everywhere with their owners and they don’t understand it if you have to put them in a kennel somewhere and leave them for a week. That’s why we’re happy to tell you that we have quite a few Cape May pet friendly vacation homes that are accommodating not just for you but for your pets as well.

Cape May pet friendly vacation homesThere are some things to keep in mind when you’re vacationing with your pets. Most importantly is that only well-behaved pets should travel on vacation with you. Pets that are friendly to people and especially to children as well as other animals, and do not bark excessively, are ideal. If your dog has separation anxiety or is not comfortable around strangers then they’re probably not well suited to traveling on a family vacation. Pets need to be secure where they’re staying and well behaved enough to take out in public places.

While your pets are allowed to be off leash in any of the Cape May pet friendly vacation homes please keep them on leash when out in public and this includes the beaches. Some people are fearful of animals of any sort and while you may know your pet to be well-behaved and harmless, others don’t know that. Be forewarned that many towns, parks, restaurants and stores have leash laws that are enforced.

We want to welcome you to Cape May for your vacation and look forward to having you bring your well-behaved pets along.
