As the summer days slowly go by, we hope you are taking the time to enjoy everything that Cape May has to offer. From beach days, bike rides, carriage and trolley rides to long walks on the beach or trails on and off the island.
Here are a few examples:
The Garrett Family Preserve at Cape Island Creek has 180 acres and offers 4 miles of unpaved trails, well-tended and easy to walk. The preserve is a haven for migrating songbirds and raptors. Wildflower fields bloom in the summer and attract pollinators like bumblebees and monarch butterflies. You can bring your pet with you too, just make sure you keep him/her on a leash. You can see the trail map HERE.
Another great walk is at Cox Hall Creek Wildlife Management Area. The paved trails are former golf-cart trails. The area is an excellent birding location, as well as being a favorite spot for dog walking.
If you are up for a bike ride, there is a bike lane along Seashore road into Cape May and Cape May Point. Another great bike ride is along Sunset Boulevard and it connects Cape May proper to Cape May Point where the lighthouse and state park are located. Along the way you can stop by at the Beach Plum Farmwhere you can buy fresh produce, feed the chickens, grab breakfast or lunch. Another great stop is at the Bread Lady Stand. Don’t be surprised if there is a long line of people, her bread is so delicious, it’stotally worth the wait in line!
Another great spot to visit is the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge located at 24 Kimbles Beach Road, Cape May Court House. The refuge stretches along the Delaware Bay for 5 miles and it’s a major resting and feeding area for migrating shorebirds. If you are into birds, Cape May Bird Observatory it’s a great place. They have a school of birding, special field trips and great events going on all the time.
If you are bringing your furry family member with you on vacation, Homestead can help you find the perfect pet-friendly home. Although the beaches are not dog-friendly in the season, you can take them for walks on the trails or to the Cape May dog park, to meet other furry friends.
