As Memorial Day 2016 is already but a memory, we are full steam ahead now towards the 2016 summer season here in Cape May. With the buzz of the holiday weekend behind us it’s easy to look ahead towards Independence Day festivities and the long weekend that will accompany them. With many schools still in session for a few more weeks and weather not quite at its peak of warmth, one may be inclined to view the month of June as a sort of season in limbo; a time of waiting for summer to begin rolling. But at Homestead, we’re here to encourage you that the season has indeed begun, and June is not a holding pattern; rather it’s a time of activity and excitement that’s well worth exploring. Let us enlighten you as to a handful of reasons why…
On Saturday, June 4th, the place to be is Wilbraham Park in beautiful West Cape May . From 9 am
until 5 pm , the West Cape May Business Association will present its annual Strawberry Festival. In what has become a traditional event for many Cape May locals and visitors, the festival is your destination for delicious Jersey strawberries and fantastic confections of a strawberry theme. There are also on site artisans featuring a wide variety of strawberry goods not only limited to food. Strawberry pottery, clothing, and even jewelry will be 
featured. We urge you to visit the festival between 1 and 4 pm, as at this time The Squares will be performing-featuring Homestead’s very own Debra Donahue. Allow yourself to be serenaded as you dine and shop. And speaking of Homestead, our company will be a presence at the festival as well! Look for the black Homestead tent and stop by to say hello. We will even present you with the chance to win a fabulous new beach chair! (Rain date is Sunday, 6/5)
Monday, June 6th will mark the 161st birthday of Dr. Emlen Physick, sponsored by the Mid Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC). If you’ve had the 
privilege of visiting Cape May in the past, we suspect you may be familiar with the famous Physick Estate on Washington St. And if not, it’s time to pay a visit to the magnificent home! Dr. Physick’s celebration will take place between the hours of 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Admission is FREE and attendees are encouraged to wear their summer whites, as there will be an opportunity to watch (or even join) a croquet match.
Moving through the month of June, MAC will also be sponsoring “Community Day” on Sunday the 12th. This is the perfect opportunity to tour a handful of Cape May’s most fascinating attractions, including the Lighthouse, World War II Lookout Tower, and of course the aforementioned Physick Estate. The ever popular guided trolley tours (which include a Physick Estate tour) will also be running throughout the day. If you’re a Cape May County resident be sure to make mention of that fact, as Community Day holds a surprise for you that you won’t want to miss!
We never hesitate to remind our visitors that Cape May is a year round community with year round fun. If Cape May were a sundae, then the beach is the cherry on top! Yes, our beaches are among the best in the country…but there’s so much more to do and see. So instead of waiting for the heart of summer to be upon us, enjoy these early June weeks for all they have to offer. You’ll be so glad you did.
